FAQs

How does the Boson Rapid Test Work?

Should the Boson Rapid COVID-19 Antigen test be used as the sole diagnosis or as a confirmatory test for SARS-CoV-2 infection?

No! The Boson Rapid SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Test Card test has been designed to act as a supplementary test for suspected cases of negative coronavirus nucleic acid detection or in conjunction with nucleic acid detection in the diagnosis of suspected cases. Testing can be performed on both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients to determine a result. Studies have shown that early testing within the first 4 days of sickness typically means a higher viral load providing easier detection.

Results from nucleocapsid protein antigen testing should NOT be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection or to inform infection status.

How does the detection work?

The N protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus reacts with the strip-shaped coating of the test line and, if present, leads to a color change and a red line will appear on the test card.

If the sample does NOT contain any virus proteins or antigens, NO red test line will appear in test zone t on the test card (T).

*A graphic outlining how to read a result is included on the “instructions for use” sheet.

Test cassettes require 3 drops of sample liquid only as the liquid absorption of the test strip is of course limited. If the control line does not appear or the test strip is unclear or discolored making it illegible, the test should be considered invalid. If this occurs, you are advised to repeat the test according to the steps outlined in the full instructions for use.

Device & Distribution

Is this device legal for use and sale in Canada?

The Boson Rapid SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Test Card manufactured by Xiamen Boson Biotech Co.Ltd. was approved by Health Canada for import and sale in Canada.

Xpec Group/Boson Canada is the authorized Canadian distributor for the Boson Rapid SARS-CoV-2 Antigen Test Card.

Performing the Test

Do I need any additional instruments or analyzers to read the results?

No additional equipment is required to administer the test but access to a timer is required to determine the best result.

Each single test will require:
Instructions for use
Sterilized Swab
Extraction Tube & Extraction Tube Tray
Sample Extraction Buffer
Test Card
Timer (not included with the test kit)

What should patients do to prepare for the test?

Patients should blow their nose prior to sample collection
Let patients know that the testing is a “non invasive” interial swab of the nose
Make sure to visibly take sample material (nasal secretion).
Testing should be performed immediately after collecting the nasal swab sample. Test cards must be used within one hour of opening.
Only apply the drops of extraction solution into the sample well marked (S) on the test card.
Caution: Too many or too few drops of extraction solution can lead to an invalid or incorrect test result.

Benefits of Rapid Testing

What are the benefits of rapid testing?

Rapid antigen lateral flow tests offer a faster, less expensive alternative to PCR testing with results available within 20 minutes. Pilot projects are ongoing throughout the world to determine the value of frequent lateral flow testing to reduce transmission of Covid-19 when combined with other safety measures.

Who should use a Boson Rapid Test?

Could I use this rapid test kit at home?

The test is intended for use by trained laboratory or healthcare professionals for in vitro diagnostic use.

Point of Care professionals administering tests are required to report all results to the appropriate public health authorities.

*Consult your provincial and local health care authorities for POC guidelines for rapid testing use
